‘Overall, the thesis is well structured and well written. Good description of the summary and results. However there are minor revisions to be made’
Grade: Fail
What??? Minor revisions and still a failure!
How many times do we have to fail in the time span of 4 long years? First the supervisor, poking their head in every damn thing, then these examiners, redoing everything I did. I have already made corrections once and doing it again is like so-out-of-my-league. Was this the purpose of doing research? To put in all your efforts and still get a fail-grade. Un-freaking-believable!The parts of ‘MINOR’ corrections are: The rationale of the research is weak, statistics is unclear, the variable in the analysis is inappropriate, the test describing statistical significance is not there, the conclusion is inappropriate.
In short, redo it all. Are these really minor corrections? What the hell am I supposed to do now? I find no other option but it is a damn lot of work. I am freaking out, please advise me as to how should I go about this.

I am so sorry to hear that, it’s awful. These are definitely not minor revisions. You have to go through almost everything again. What did they comment about the writing? Are you native English?

No, I am not native English but my writing style is fine. I am so disappointed, after all my hard work and time that I gave to this research, all I get is humiliation. What if I don’t make it? I am so freaking tensed that I can’t even sleep proper. I don’t know what do you. Please, someone just help me out.

I am really sorry to hear that. I can understand how it feels as I have faced many rejections myself too. The best thing that you can do is sit down with your supervisor, and ask him to make specific comments on your document. The examiners give their comments on a broad perspective, so I think you should only revise after having the complete idea of where you are wrong. And don’t be so worried, it’ll be okay. A dissertation is a big achievement. It ain’t supposed to be easy.

First of all the correction work is enormous so the first thing you need to do is to relax and focus on the points of corrections on which you have to work out. If the rationale of your research is weak then you need to correct the objectives of your research and until and unless you are not clear with your objectives you cannot form a concrete conclusion. You need to start from scratch and give a thorough study to your manuscript.

Hi Sophia! I know how tough it is to face a rejection but nevertheless just calm yourself and work strategically. Before making all the revisions, it is better that you follow a step wise method i.e., getting your document checked or modified section wise by your supervisor. This will help to avert the future possibilities of your dissertation rejection.

You are suggesting that I should get my dissertation checked chapter-wise? I guess that would be better as all the chapters need revision. I am nearly done with my second chapter. I’ll keep posting on how it goes.

Sophia: I gave my two chapters for review, both of them came back. Again with minor corrections. I am so exhausted, I can’t even write correct right now!

They are really after you. I am sorry for your situation, you have landed yourself into the crappy zone of edit-corrections-repeat. The loop is long but you’d eventually get out of it. Firstly, hire a proofreader. The document must be large, it’s natural to make mistakes, so do that first and then work your brain out.

Yup, I would also say something around those lines. I do think that you are making so many changes and additions but still, something is missing. So, getting your document edited or proofread is probably the best thing you can do. I am in a distance learning program from Western Michigan University and the professors their advice that you should take help from editors to edit and format your document. I am sharing you the link of a website, you‘ll know then why you need proofreading:
