It’s been only 6 months since I enrolled in a PhD course in Medical Microbiology, and my supervisor has left me! She got retired and refused to assist me anymore. Well, she wasn’t an ideal supervisor but at least she was there when I need her guidance. Now, I have been searching for other professors in my college that can help me out but they are all ‘booked’. I have no clue as to how I should find a supervisor who would be indulgent in my research. So, my question is, how do you find a supervisor?

Why don’t you try looking for a supervisor outside your college? Maybe your friend’s friend? Or maybe someone at your college can refer a professor who’s available. Try to convince your teachers and college management to help you out!

Here’s what you can do:
1. Find a relative who is a professor, or anybody you know of (Your friend’s friend)
2. Take help from experts (http://www.360dissertations.co.uk/)
3. Live your life! That’s the easiest way out! All you have to do is follow the above steps. During my PhD, my supervisor turned out to be an absentee. I didn’t have to find a new one, but I couldn’t move forward with my work as well. I simply sought help from 360 Dissertations. They suggested me topic for my thesis, developed my proposal, formulated my research design, prepared my questionnaire, did my analysis and wrote my thesis. I simple collected the data, that’s it! So, maybe you can do the same. Convince someone you know who can just be there to approve your work, sign your thesis, and behind the sets, get help! I am not sure if it’s ethical or not, but hey, at the end, does it really matters? I got the degree and it was worth it!

@Gabriella621 I think it’s pretty weird that you have to look for a supervisor! Just consult with your college administration. If you don’t have a supervisor, then they should provide you one!
