Hi. I wanted to know about the authorship rules in the academia. I was working with a colleague on a research paper as a second author. At first, i came up with the idea of researching on the feminist view of Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own. And then we started with the work. Together, we worked on reviewing literature, charting out the ideas and arguments. But meanwhile I had some family issues so reluctantly i had to go back to my hometown for a few months. I stayed in touch with my colleague about the progress of the paper. I couldn’t help in writing the paper and asked him to write if he could not wait for me to come back. He wrote the entire paper and submitted to a journal for publishing. I thought he would have given me second authorship for i came up with the research idea and participated significantly in the research. But he didn’t give me any authorship when i saw the paper published in a good impact factor journal. I contact him as well as the journal but i was asked a proof to validate that i played an important role in this research. Please tell me what shall i do? What proof shall i give them? Can i file a complaint against them?
