My work always comes back with more comments and edits. Something’s always wrong, not the writing style but transition among paragraphs and mostly additions. My supervisor makes the minor changes himself and further asks me to either ‘redo’ some portions or ‘add a little bit here’ or ‘edit this’.
It’s exhausting, my work doesn’t require this much of editing. Does your supervisor do the same?

At least your supervisor comments and edits. That’s definitely a plus. Mine is least bothered when it comes to input and highly interfering when it comes to output. The lady doesn’t know shit, she doesn’t help me out and when I ought to submit my work, she points out all the irrelevant things that I missed out. Of course I’ll miss out on irrelevant stuff, how stupid is that. I guess, one way or the other, all the supervisors are heartlessly painful.

Well my tutor is useless. He is least bothered of what I do. All he wants is publications and his name written on it. I am in my proposal-writing phase, and never once has he bothered looked at my draft, let alone edit it. I guess you should be grateful, at least you are not in dark.

Hi Claudia I know your situation is irritating. But have you tried editing your work before submitting the file to your supervisor? I know it’s hard to keep checking for grammars every time you work. I can suggest you a software which will help you with proof reading. You can use White Smoke software to check your grammar, spelling and syntax and make helpful suggestions to make your writing better.

@Austin Thank you so much for your reply and I think that you may be right. I have this thing that when I write, I am unable to go through it again, so I don’t proofread my work.
I can surely try to proofread my drafts before submitting them, so I checked out White Smoke software but unfortunately it’s chargeable. Can you suggest me any software which does not cost much on my pocket? Or is free of cost?

For the time being I can only think of ‘Grammarly Grammar Check’ which can help you with writing of basic-error free English. Grammarly’s grammar checker not only identifies your grammatical errors, but offers helpful explanations of each mistake. I don’t remember if they offer free trials or not, you can check out here: https://www.grammarly.com/

When taking about my supervisor, there is only one word that comes to my head, “WEIRD”. The guy is totally nuts. He reviews my work when he wants to, he calls up when he wants to, he edits when he wants to. Everything happens as per his mood; sometimes he wouldn’t care, even if I am on fire, and sometimes, he’d just stand on my head and make me do work. But I guess that’s better than your over-editing-supervisor. My advice? Just stay out of his way. Peace.

You do know that supervisors have our internal marks? Just let him edit your document, I don’t think that’s too bad.

My supervisor doesn’t make any corrections but asks me to do it. And let’s just say that he asks A LOT. So no, I don’t think that you need to be concerned about over editing. It’s not normal but certainly less annoying.
