Literature Review is often considered the biggest hurdle in preparing a dissertation. It is a collection of academic work done by scholars in a historic time period. This section lists all the previously done work relevant to the study domain of the dissertation. It keeps a track of the scholarly ideas which has been published in the past.
While preparing the chapter of Literature Review, you must keep in mind the fact that it must be guided by your research question since it represents the background to your research. This section should also be given considerable attention and time, and it must not be simply stated. The bullets below outline the points that must be considered while preparing a literature review:
- It must revolve around your thesis and its research questions.
- Your literature review chapter must summarize results to describe what is known and what is not, so as the readers can know what you intend to project.
- It must also highlight the contrasting views existing in the literature.
- Another key point to be stated is the scope of further research in that field.
Literature reviews act as a stepping stone for the researcher as it provide a direction into which the scholar can move ahead for more investigation. Not just researchers, literature review is also beneficial for professionals and other readers as it facilitates them with updated information of the specific domain.
