The LR chapter of my thesis is well written but my guide keeps on saying that it needs to be synthesized well. She says, “You have mentioned mere facts in your dissertation. They should be woven intricately.” So, I made a theoretical framework which supports my LR and also provides an overview of the studies which I have used in the work. Now the situation is that my guide wants to see a conceptual framework. I am not able to figure out that what this has to do with my dissertation?

Yes your guide is right, a conceptual framework shows that how the studies in LR would address the research questions and objectives of your thesis? If you would present a conceptual framework then the diagram will easily represent how the variables will interact with each other and how they are related. You should first jot down the variables on a paper. Identify which ones are independent, dependent and control/moderating ones. Try to make a self-explanatory network which demonstrates their interaction.

The conceptual framework will serve as a quick, easy glance to your entire LR section. It is like the front page of your book, which is the first step to hold the interest of your reader, to read any further. And yes, it is best represented through a diagram, using simple blocks and arrows, showing the inter-relations between the variables under study. This would in fact help you, yourself at your analysis and discussion stage, by putting your results in line with the proposed framework.
