      Hello!
For my research, I am planning to conduct interviews with families of those who are alcoholic dependent. Like, I want to analyse the efficiency of self-improvement programs for riddance from alcoholism. So, for that, instead of interviewing the addicted people, I want to interview their families or the people involved in such programs. My question is that what is this method? Cuz, I couldn’t find much literature on it, and it’s crucial for me to define this method. I am unable to do so, and any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

I think what you are asking is about sampling technique and not the method. I am not that sure, but I guess you are refereeing to judgemental sampling where the investigator chooses the sample on the basis of his knowledge. As you are selecting the respondents who you think are more suitable to answer your research questions, it’s your call, your judgement and therefore, judgemental sampling.

Hey thanks a lot, I read about judgmental sampling and turns out it is the method I was referring to.

Hello again. I am looking for some good research books that define all the methods along with sampling techniques. If anyone could suggest the same, it would be really helpful. Thanks.

To find a good book which combines work on both research methodology and sampling technique would be tough rather I can suggest you two writers for the same. A Book by John W. Creswell- Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods Approaches and for learning sampling technique you can go through a book by Johnny Saldana- Sampling Methods: Exercises and Solutions

I hope these books will be helpful to you.

Guess what! I came across a book which has been well written in selecting sampling technique and research methodology by Nick Emmel- Sampling and Choosing Cases in Qualitative Research: A Realist Approach. It clearly streamlines all the methods and technique which can help you to resort all your concerns.
