Hey all.
I have enrolled into a master’s program (M.A. International affairs: Global Governance and Security) and my area of research is international security, which deals with all the security issues like terrorism, non-proliferation and conflicts between states. I am very keen on studying public international laws and would like to land a job in any international organization. But first, I need to choose a particular topic to work on. I might seem confident on what I want to do and all but seriously, I have no clue on how to select a topic! Ironic!
Based on your knowledge regarding this domain of research, what can be your best advice for me? How should I select a particular topic from this gamut of knowledge?
Thank you in advance! -

I doubt anyone here can give you the exact topic. See, this is something you gotta do on your own! Just read a lot of literature on it and find the area which requires more research and you’ll be good to go.

I agree with Savannah25, that you need to find a topic yourself.
I don’t really have much knowledge regarding this research domain, so I can’t advice you on that. But maybe I can help you out.
A friend of mine was facing a similar kind of struggle; his topic was rejected as he couldn’t justify it. So, he consulted Dissertation Tutors. It’s a website where you can consult with tutors, who are subject matter experts in respective fields. They provide assistance regarding dissertation problems, such as writing, editing, analysis help, topic suggestions etc. The tutor suggested 3 topics, with justifications and academic references. My friend selected one, it was quite decent, and got approved.
He was researching in a management area, so I am not sure if they assist law students or not. I am sharing the link below, if you feel like, you can talk to them and know for yourself: -

I checked out the website. And I have even initiated a chat with the tutor named Beth Popely, just to clear my queries.
But, what was the name of the tutor who assisted your friend? And the price quote is on hourly basis, in how much time, did the tutor give the suggestions? And what if I don’t like all the three topics?

The tutor was Alex Riley and he took a day’s time for the allotted work, though he charged for 2 hours. I think the price quote is customized, on the basis of your requirement. I am not sure, what happens if you don’t like the topic. Guess you’ll have to see for yourself.

I can’t decide whether the topic I chose really interests me or not. I mean, I chose it myself and was happy with it initially but as supervisor direct me to do this, do that, I find myself and unsatisfied with my topic. You know how difficult and boring it is to work on anything which doesn’t interest you at all. What shall I do now? Work on it or chose a new topic?

It’s not too late if you want to get started again. Don’t worry if you can’t find anything of your interest or passion. You will figure out something once you start reading. I’m wondering what made you feel like you don’t like this topic. Do you have something else in your mind? If yes, then why not develop that idea further?

Do not continue with uninterested topic, I did the same mistake and now I’m tagged as ABD. I would strongly advise to take your time and then make a decision.
