Austin BuzacottParticipant
You need to conduct a thorough research for writing a scientific research paper as rejection in this area is quite common. You need to have a clear idea and structure of the research, which can be presented in a paper. As I understand that, you don’t have an idea of what to write about. So I do not think you can write a paper as of now. You first need to develop a research idea and conduct a full-fledged research on it. Then you need to develop something of your known, which will be your contribution to the other studies. A scientific research paper presents your findings, which are fresh and new, unlike a review paper. So, I guess you need to work on that.
Austin BuzacottParticipantFor the time being I can only think of ‘Grammarly Grammar Check’ which can help you with writing of basic-error free English. Grammarly’s grammar checker not only identifies your grammatical errors, but offers helpful explanations of each mistake. I don’t remember if they offer free trials or not, you can check out here: https://www.grammarly.com/
Austin BuzacottParticipantHi Claudia I know your situation is irritating. But have you tried editing your work before submitting the file to your supervisor? I know it’s hard to keep checking for grammars every time you work. I can suggest you a software which will help you with proof reading. You can use White Smoke software to check your grammar, spelling and syntax and make helpful suggestions to make your writing better.
Austin BuzacottParticipantHey, you can also refer this blog on how to design a questionnaire, maybe you’ll find it useful.
Austin BuzacottParticipantI’ll rather suggest you to use a combination of Qualitative and Quantitative questionnaire which can improve your scale of evaluation by ensuring that the limitation of one type of data is balanced by the strength of another. Trust me it’s worth a try!
Austin BuzacottParticipantBoth of these methods have their own pros and cons. You settled on mixed approach before. Why do you now think it’s a bad idea?
Austin BuzacottParticipantWell, your headings are a bit different from mine, but I think I can explain you the broad meaning. A research proposal basically explains what you are aiming to achieve and how you are going to do it. You need to read all the literature available related to your topic and study the methods adopted by researchers. Then, you need to identify the gap, i.e. something about the study that the others failed to address, a problem for which you can provide a solution. Based on that, prepare the research questions for which you will try to find answers through your research. Then you need to provide the research methodology i.e. the process with which you will conduct your research.
Austin BuzacottParticipantHey Sabine_Zim, Welcome to UK! So, you got to write a research proposal! Has your guide told you anything about it? Like what you need to write in a draft? Or some kind of format or an example of proposal? And how many words of proposal do you need to prepare?
Austin BuzacottParticipantWhich method you want to choose depends upon your research questions. What do you think is the best possible way to answer them? Questions such as ‘how can the companies impart employability skills among students?’ can be best answered by gathering opinions of the companies which is possible through open-ended questions i.e., qualitative. On the other hand, question such as ‘what is the relationship between employability skills and employability growth?’ can be answered by using quantitative method. So, study your questions carefully and then decide.
And as for your question, you can include both, qualitative and quantitative questions in one questionnaire and name it as mixed methods. And yes, positivism can comprise of both the methods. If you need more clarifications, visit your college library and ask the librarian’s help.
Austin BuzacottParticipantHey, why don’t you try reading the Sage Handbook? It comprises of everything, definitions and explanations of all the research methods and approaches, when to use which methods and which design is best suitable for different types of researches.
